This Privacy Policy explains what information HoursChecking (hourschecking.com/) collects when you use this website, how that information is used, and the choices and rights you have. We have written it in plain language on purpose. By using HoursChecking, you agree to the practices described on this page; if you do not agree, please do not use the site.
1. Who We Are
HoursChecking is an independent store-hours directory that publishes opening and closing times for major US stores, restaurants, banks, pharmacies and public offices. In this policy, “we”, “us” and “our” mean the operators of HoursChecking. For any privacy question or request, contact us at [email protected].
2. Information We Collect
HoursChecking does not require an account, a login or a payment of any kind, and we do not ask visitors to register. The personal information we receive is limited to what you choose to send us:
- Emails you send us: if you contact us — for example to report incorrect hours, suggest a brand or make a privacy request — we receive your email address, your name if you include it, and the contents of your message, including any details about a store and its hours that you provide.
- Correction details: information about store locations and schedules that you include in a correction is business information about the store, and we treat it as such; it is used only to verify and update the relevant guide.
- Automatically collected data: like almost every website, our servers and analytics tools collect technical data about visits, described in sections 3 and 4 below.
We do not collect payment details, government identifiers, precise location data or any special-category personal data, and we do not buy personal data from data brokers.
3. Log Files and Analytics
HoursChecking follows a standard procedure of using log files. These files log visitors when they visit websites — all hosting companies do this as part of hosting analytics. The information collected by log files includes internet protocol (IP) addresses, browser type, internet service provider (ISP), date and time stamps, referring and exit pages, and possibly the number of clicks. These are not linked to any information that is personally identifiable. We use this data to administer the site, spot errors and abuse, understand which guides readers use, and improve the directory.
4. Cookies and Web Beacons
Like most websites, HoursChecking uses cookies — small text files stored on your device by your browser. Cookies on this site are used to remember preferences (such as display settings), to keep the site working correctly during a session, and to help us and our advertising and analytics partners understand how the site is used. Some pages may also use web beacons (clear pixels) for the same measurement purposes.
You can disable cookies in your browser settings at any time; most browsers also let you delete cookies already stored and block them per site. The core content of HoursChecking — the hours guides themselves — remains readable with cookies disabled, though some features may work less smoothly.
5. Advertising Partners and the Google DART Cookie
HoursChecking may display advertising served by third-party advertising partners, including Google. Third-party ad servers or ad networks use technologies such as cookies, JavaScript or web beacons in the advertisements and links that appear on this site; these are sent directly to your browser, which automatically receives your IP address when this occurs. These technologies are used to measure the effectiveness of advertising campaigns and to personalise the advertising content you see on websites you visit.
Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads on this site. Google’s use of the DART cookie enables it and its partners to serve ads to our visitors based on their visit to HoursChecking and other sites on the internet. You may opt out of the use of the DART cookie by visiting Google’s Ads Settings at https://adssettings.google.com, and you can opt out of personalised advertising from many third-party vendors at https://www.aboutads.info/choices/. HoursChecking has no access to or control over the cookies used by third-party advertisers; their own privacy policies govern their data practices, and we encourage you to review them.
6. Analytics Tools
We use privacy-respecting analytics to count visits, see which guides are popular and find pages that need improvement. Analytics data is aggregated — it tells us, for example, that a guide was read a certain number of times, not what an identified individual read. Where an analytics provider processes data on our behalf, it does so under its own terms and privacy policy.
7. CCPA Privacy Rights (California Residents)
Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), California residents have the right to request that a business disclose the categories and specific pieces of personal data it has collected about them, request that personal data be deleted, and opt out of the sale of their personal data. HoursChecking does not sell personal information — we have no data marketplace, and the limited information described in section 2 is never sold or shared for monetary value. To exercise any CCPA right, email [email protected] with the subject “Privacy request”; we will respond within the time required by law.
8. GDPR Data Protection Rights (European Visitors)
If you are in the European Economic Area, you have the following rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and we will honour them:
- Access: request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Rectification: ask us to correct information you believe is inaccurate or incomplete.
- Erasure: ask us to delete your personal data, subject to legal obligations that require us to keep certain records.
- Restriction: ask us to limit how we process your data.
- Objection: object to our processing of your data in certain circumstances.
- Portability: request that data you provided be transferred to you or another organisation in a usable format.
Our lawful basis for processing the information in section 2 is your consent and our legitimate interest in operating and improving the directory (for example, answering your email is necessary to respond to you). To exercise any GDPR right, email [email protected] with the subject “Privacy request”; we aim to respond within one month.
9. Data Retention and Security
We keep emails only as long as needed to handle your enquiry, verify corrections and maintain an audit trail for disputed schedule changes, after which they are deleted. Log and analytics data are retained in aggregated or short-term form. We use reasonable technical and organisational measures — including reputable hosting, access controls and keeping software up to date — to protect the limited data we hold. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we work to protect your information proportionately to its sensitivity.
10. Children’s Information
HoursChecking does not knowingly collect any personal information from children under the age of 13, and the site is not directed at children. If you believe your child has provided us with personal information — for example by sending an email — please contact us at [email protected] and we will promptly delete it.
11. Consent, Changes to This Policy, and Contact
By using HoursChecking, you consent to this Privacy Policy and agree to its terms. We may update this policy from time to time — for example when we add a tool or a legal requirement changes. Updates take effect when posted on this page, and the “last updated” date at the top will change accordingly; significant changes will be highlighted on this page. If you have any questions about this policy or your information, contact us at [email protected].
